Pajamas are both some of the easiest and the trickiest articles of clothing to buy for your kids. Easy because you don’t have to worry as much about them looking presentable in public. As long as your kid is comfortable, it’s OK if she wears mismatched PJ tops and bottoms or sleeps in an outfit emblazoned with unicorns, superheroes, or polka dots. On the other hand, the rate at which kids outgrow clothes makes buying pajamas that will actually be worth their price tag a balancing act. You want to buy PJs that are just a bit too big now so the kid gets plenty of use out of them, but you can’t go too big. Loose pajamas can be uncomfortable and are in fact a safety hazard both in terms of potentially limiting motion and fire danger. But kids’ PJs are no place to go cheap despite the fact that they’ll be soon outgrown. Many children spend 10 or even 12 hours asleep each day well into their preschool years, so they’ll be wearing their pajamas as much or even more than clothing. The m...

Columbia Sportswear Company Reports Record Third Quarter and First Nine Months 2019 Financial Results; Updates Full Year 2019 Financial Outlook

Columbia Sportswear Company (NASDAQ: COLM), a leading innovator in active outdoor apparel, footwear, accessories and equipment, today announced third quarter 2019 financial results for the period ended September 30, 2019. President and Chief Executive Officer Tim Boyle commented, “Record third quarter results exceeded our expectations, with broad based growth across our geographic segments, channels and product categories. During the quarter, we were able to ship a greater portion of our Fall 2019 order book compared to the Fall 2018 season as retailers restocked depleted inventory positions after harsh winter weather and exceptional sell-through in North America last year. Higher advance orders and earlier shipments contributed to 14 percent growth for the Columbia brand and 27 percent growth for the SOREL brand in the quarter. SOREL’s impressive growth was led by strong demand for fall fashion styles, further validating the brand’s success as a year-round fashion footwear brand. Our net sales growth momentum combined with Project CONNECT margin benefits drove earnings per share growth in excess of 20 percent with continued investment in our strategic priorities.” “As we enter ...

Running a Restaurant Is Hard, Chef Partnerships Are Even Harder. Can Onda Get It Right?

When Gabriela Cámara and Jessica Koslow began planning the menu for their new L.A. restaurant, Onda, they started with a pair of lists: one had Cámara’s must-have dishes, the other had Koslow’s. The idea was that they’d take these dishes and, one by one, filter them through Onda’s influences: Mexico, California, Cámara-style classicism, Koslow-style whimsy. “Onda is not a Mexican restaurant. It is rooted in Mexican food.” In the four months I spent talking to Cámara and Koslow this summer and fall, they both used this line to describe what Onda’s food would be like. For a while, it seemed to be as far as they had gotten. Slowly, they made some progress. When Cámara wanted a gin and tonic on the cocktail list, the women decided that Onda would make the tonic from scratch, and they ran that tonic through the California filter: It would be seasonal based on the fruits and herbs sold at the nearby Santa Monica farmers market. And when Koslow wanted corn nuts on the menu (she grew up eating small ranch-flavored bags after school), they were put through a Mexico lens: tossed in salt made by dehydrating Onda’s house-made hot sauce and sauerkraut. But when it came to the the fritto mist...

He has undergone 23 heart procedures. But that doesn’t stop Old Colony freshman Brady Weglowski from playing the game he loves. – Sports – southcoasttoday.com

As he would approach down a hallway toward the waiting room — in what they couldn’t help but recognize from every hospital scene from every TV show and movie ever made — he would either be wearing scrubs or a suit. “If he comes up here in scrubs, that means he’s not going home tonight,” Marc Weglowski says. “He’s going to stay here and watch something. If he comes out in his street clothes, he’s going home and he feels comfortable.” The first time this played out for the Weglowskis was at 10:20 at night on Aug. 29, 2005, after their 2-month-old son, Brady, had just undergone his first open-heart surgery. It’s one of those marvelous sunny-yet-cool fall afternoons at Acushnet River Valley Golf Course as Brady raises his blue rangefinder to his brow, lining up his tee shot on the sixth hole. The orange pants he is notorious for wearing around Reservation Golf Club are gone, replaced with khakis and a black Old Colony shirt. But there’s a slight nod to his favorite player Rickie Fowler’s penchant for gaudiness in Brady’s orange-highlighted shoes. The slender-framed freshman is coming off a birdie on the fourth hole and a par on the fifth. He’ll finish the round with a si...

IronX by DXG 5G9V HD action cam review: Good bang-for-your-buck action cam

The Good The IronX by DXG 5G9V HD action cam is value-packed, with a good assortment of accessories, built-in Wi-Fi, and accompanying iOS and Android apps, and a bright OLED display. Several mounting options are available as well as adapters for tripod and GoPro mounts. The Bad Its 1080p video looks soft and lacks detail, making it best suited for viewing at small sizes onscreen or on mobile devices. For all that DXG does include, you’ll still need to buy a microSD card. The neon accents on its waterproof housing makes it look like a toy. The Bottom Line The IronX by DXG is a very good bang-for-your-buck HD action cam that should satisfy those looking for an inexpensive way to shoot POV videos, as long as you don’t need the absolute best video. DXG might not have the name recognition of GoPro or Sony, but it’s no stranger to camcorders. The manufacturer has been around for more than 20 years as a camera OEM/ODM and basically specializes in making inexpensive camcorders with attention-grabbing specs for the money. And that’s pretty much what it delivers with its first action cam, the IronX 5G9V HD. For $250 (and you can actually find it for less than $200)...

Simone Biles wins record 25th world championship medal

STUTTGART, Germany — Simone Biles’s gymnastics crackle with supercharged power, style and creativity that can’t be reduced to medal counts. Even the unschooled eye can tell that she is a once-in-a-generation athlete, performing seemingly impossible feats with joy and energy to spare. But for those beholden to statistics, Biles delivered a history-making share on the final day of the World Gymnastics Championships on Sunday, breaking the record for the most world medals earned by a gymnast, male or female, in winning the 24th of her career — a gold on the balance beam. Then, after the equivalent of a lunch break, she returned to the arena and won another gold — this one, on floor exercise, with a routine that included the stunning, triple-twisting, double somersault that she alone has successfully landed in competition and extended her record-setting world medal tally to 25. Upon concluding her final routine in what is likely her final world championship, the 22-year-old Biles seemed to take a dramatic pause on the tumbling floor as cheers rained down from the capacity crowd. But she was simply too exhausted to stand up and walk off, she explained afterward, utterly sapped from 1...

It is not an idea embraced by all, but electric bicycles – AKA e-bikes – are

It is not an idea embraced by all, but electric bicycles – AKA e-bikes – are now allowed “where traditional bicycles are allowed” at all national parks and monuments as of Tuesday, Oct. 1 – and that will be followed by allowing ATVs and UTVs at the same parks and monuments effective Nov. 1. According to a report in the Salt Lake Tribune, the off-road vehicles will be allowed only in Utah’s federal parks and monuments due to state law that allows owners to drive them on state and county roads as long as they have the required safety equipment and are registered and insured. Also, ATVs and UTVs are not allowed to leave designated roads. They are, essentially, confined to the same roads as passenger vehicles. What the policy change might mean in southeastern Utah is unclear. A telephone call seeking comment from Kate Cannon, superintendent of the Southeast Utah Group of National Park, was not returned by press time. While environmental groups have been critical of the move, ongoing efforts to ease traffic congestion at Arches National Park – both at the park and in Moab, where the tourists stay – could be worsened by bringing in a new kind of tourist. Another concern, according to...
